Today, I would like to go home.
Today, I would like the freedom of movement, no bumping shoulders, no reluctant windows, no bus numbers, swelling lines nor slamming doors. Just open road, changing leaves, chilling breeze and deafeningly loud music. I would like I-85.
I would like english--advertisement, even. Menus and ordering with confidence instead of apology.
I would like every person I meet to know all my stories. I would like to be unburdened and understood. Completely.
Today I envy my younger self; the stinging clarity of unrequited love and the self-righteous sense of purpose in a good love poem.
Today I miss my friends and my friend's couches.
Today I miss public schools and even educational theatre.
Today, and always, I miss my family and the pack of dogs we keep.

miss youtoo bud
ReplyDeletebut it's also true that when you get back, things will be more the same then you ever imagined they could be
Today you are thought of from Carolina. May you find a sense of purpose in the confinement of the crowds.May you bump the shoulder and gain the surprising attention of a new and special friend with the kindest of eyes. May all your reluctant windows provide clear views of golden opportunities. May a bus numbered 22 remind you of your keen intelligence, insight and talents despite being still of young age. May the swelling lines provide moments of quiet reflection whereby you wait with mature patience and count your amazing blessings and opportunities. As another slamming door awakens you, remember it might be the tooth fairy delivering a simple surprise. You still believe, right? May you fall asleep and dream of driving down Wonderwood as the beautiful fall brightly colored fall leaves brush the windshield of your element. May you feel the ever so slight brushing of the chilling Carolina autumn breeze embracing your face. May memories of long late night drives along I-85 fill your dreams. May that 100 mile drive from C to G and G to C remind you that the fading honda tire marks await renewed refreshing. Mars Volta is still loudly calling out your name. That I-85 drive will again remain your ride for awhile yet before your final flight from the nest far north toward The Big Apple.Replace turkish advertisement and menu ordering with an appreciation of just the privilege of the exchange. A smile is spelled the same in any language! No apology is ever needed! Instead of missing your own stories, listen and record their stories upon your heart. With that all burdens will lessen as you gain empathy understanding. You have everything you need inside of you to be complete. You posses a bright mind, unselfish spirit of giving and a very loving heart. The poems you wrote as a younger man are only the prelude to the wonderful caring and talented mature man whose unconditional love will be returned multiplied. I understand the passion! Life, loving and even pain delivers purpose. We get the experience then the lesson. It must start in the deepest cevices of our simple and quiet soul. I have learned we must honor ourselves first! Becoming whole, learning forgivness and seeking truth brings the completness. In order to have friends, one must first be a friend. You have many friends and their hearts have been blessed by your presence whether from just a simple couch conversation or a blog written from across the vast ocean.Friendship does not reside in the bones of any couch nor in a turkish tea shope, for it lives and grows within our hearts. The walls of Cotswold, Randolph, Northwest School Of The Arts and UNCG still play the tapes of the sound of your unique footsteps walking down the hallways and are better because you were there. Shakespeare, (Alex style) lives on within the mortar of the buildings. Today and always your family misses you as well in all the special ways known in the name of love and great pride. Our pack of animals await with eager anticipation from the den window your homecoming. A mother's heart and breath speaks out daily prayers in your honor and a special Angel from heaven above watches diligently and lovingly over you each day and night. Mom
